Beverly National Bank

February 12, 2010 — The local branch and all other offices of Beverly National Bank, which first opened in 1802 and calls itself the country's oldest community bank, will close its doors at the end of business today. When it reopens on Tuesday morning, it will be known as Danversbank.

Today at 4 p.m., the institution that has been part of Beverly for more than two centuries will cease to exist.

The transition makes complete the merger of the two banks that was announced last June, when Danversbank acquired Beverly National for $62 million in stock.

Beverly National Bank customers will have their accounts converted to Danversbank accounts this weekend, and the signs on all Beverly National branches — including the branch at 11 Summer St. in Manchester — will be changed to Danversbank.

Beverly National Bank opened its doors to the public on October 4, 1802, in the John Cabot House located at 117 Cabot Street, the present home of the Beverly Historical Society. That makes us the oldest community bank and the third oldest chartered bank in the United States.
