Link Federal Credit Union was chartered under the Indiana State Credit Union Law in February of 1930 to serve employees of the Link-Belt Companies located in Indianapolis. The credit union was formed around the bucket fund established during the depression to assist fellow employees. The Link-Belt Corporation provided office space and employee (volunteers) for credit union operations until 1974 when the credit union moved off site to better serve members and potential family members.

In 1981, the Link-Belt Employees Credit Union became Link Federal Credit Union. The process was a conversion from a State Charter to a Federal Credit Union Charter. The charter conversion provided the credit union more flexibility to extend credit union services to select employee groups.

Over the years, there have been six credit unions merge with Link. Renner's Express Trucking was the first followed by Electric Steel Castings, Holiday Steel Federal Credit Union, Independent Order of Foresters Federal Credit Union, Preston-Safeway Federal Credit Union, Mallory Employees Federal Credit Union and most recently Cooperatives Federal Credit Union.

Today, Link serves more than ninety select employee groups in Indiana and Tennessee. Link also serves a number of satellite locations nation wide including such states as Michigan, California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Massachusetts, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. Link also has individuals whom have maintained their credit union membership and live in states such as Alaska, Minnesota, Arkansas, Arizona, New York, and Virginia to name a few.
