About Southern Security Federal Credit Union
In 1948, the Rubber Worker's Federal Credit Union was organized as a savings institution for the employees of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Memphis, Tennessee. We played an important role in the lives of our members then - as we still do today.
We weren't quite sure of our fate in 1983 when it was announced that Firestone was closing its Memphis operations. Our assets were $12 million and our membership was 5000. The National Credit Union Association stepped in to save us, as well as other credit unions around the country.
It permitted us to diversify our membership base, and therefore, thrive in a down-turned economy. We soon changed our name to reflect the change in membership base to Southern Security Federal Credit Union.
We now have over 500 distinct companies that are affiliated with us, ever strengthening our financial position.
