Worst Financial Institution
I am a newly elected President of a Student Organization at the University of Maine. I went to UCU in order to add my name to an account. On my first visit, I was told that all I had to do was fill out a form and that the advisor's signature was not required. However, once I did exactly as they told me, I was told by the same teller that I had to get the advisor's signature, and she acted as if I was a moron. However, once I got the advisor's signature (now my third trip), I was told by a different teller that I still could not add my name to the account without the presence of an additional signer (even though teller #1 told me that it was not necessary), at this point, teller #1 and #2 began yelling at me and insulting me even though I was speaking cordially and behaving maturely. On trip number 4, I finally got on the account, but when I asked for a balance, the teller told me that I would have to pay a fee in order to see my balance. With that, I could not take any more of this nonsense and left. If at all possible, I would close the Organization's account at this institution and go to a better one, but the University of Maine Student Government will not recognize another institution. I have never experienced a more unprofessional, disorganized, or ridiculous financial institution in my life. Avoid this Credit Union if at all possible!
About University Credit Union
University Credit Union is a unique financial solution for students, employees and alumni of Maine's University System. What makes UCU unique you might ask? There are a lot of little things that make UCU different, but the most important difference is that we are a local, not-for-profit financial institution who's focus is on serving our members.
Each and every member owns a piece of UCU and has democratic control over the future of the organization. This also makes us a part of the communities that we serve, not merely a third party profit organization designed for the benefit of investors. Our investors are our members! We take pride in being a local institution that can give back to the communities that we all belong to.
Being a member of a financial cooperative gives you an advantage that you won't find at other financial institutions. A cooperative institution is designed to benefit it's members and owners and this has been the driving philosophy of UCU since we opened our doors in 1967.
