About White House Federal Credit Union
In Washington, DC, 1935 was also the year that The White House Federal Credit Union was launched. Although little documentation remains, it appears that the Credit Union was started by a group of Secret Service employees in an effort to help fellow White House employees enjoy a better economic life. They applied for a charter from the newly formed Bureau of Federal Credit Unions (renamed the National Credit Union Administration in the 1970s) and opened up an office in the Executive Office Building, not far from the White House.
The White House Federal Credit Union offered only a few loans and savings accounts at first. Over the following decades, however, the Credit Union expanded and adapted its products and services to meet the needs of members. With the gradual rise of the Internet, for example, electronic services such as a website, Online Banking and Online Bill Pay were introduced. These services provided members with more convenience and 24/7 access to their accounts.
Membership also expanded over subsequent decades. To accommodate this expansion, the Credit Union’s Main Office moved from the Executive Office Building to its current location at 1724 F Street, NW, in 2001. And in 2008, the Credit Union opened the Ballston Office at 4121 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 100, in Arlington, Virginia.
Over our 75-year history, we have evolved into a full-service, stable financial institution that proudly serves more than 6,674 members and has $61 million in assets. We have enjoyed serving your needs over the years, and we look forward to continuing to do so in the future!
